Clarity & Intentionality prevent "Mission Drift"
"Where there is no vision, the people perish" [Proverbs 29:18]
Two factors I believe are important for us as we seek to faithfully respond to the Lord's call upon us and be faithful to the Mission he has entrusted to us. They are "Clarity" and "Intentionality". On Sunday I sought to share a little about our vision for both this coming year and also the years to come. We are calling 2020 the Year of "Discipleship" as we seek to grow in Christ into people who love well, and do so "more and more" as the Apostle Paul would say (see 1 Thess. 4:1,10). This ties together both the Great Commandment (Matt 22:37-40) and the Great Commission (Matt 28:18-20) and I believe that the visit by the team from Chicago at the end of March will help to envision and solidify things even further.
As for "Intentionality", we are currently working with our Leadership Community to help develop some plans to help us give shape to the vision and hopefully some rhythms and practices that reinforce these values so that they become increasingly a part of who we are. Look for more on this as we get into April.
I also talked about how we hope to shape our ministry emphasis over the coming few years, and for the benefit of those unable to join us on Sunday, as well as a reminder for us all, I want to list them here. Please also note that these initiatives also reflect the identity and purpose of the Anglican Mission in Canada of which we are a part.
2020 Growing in Discipleship
2021 Growing in Evangelism
2022 Growing in Mentoring and Leadership Development
2023 Growing in Planting and Multiplication
Please sign up to come along on Saturday March 28th (9am-4pm) and this Sunday there will be more details as to how you can do that. A reminder also that today (Feb 26th) is Ash Wednesday and the start of the season of Lent in the Church's year, leading up to Easter. During this time we are invited to a season of reflection and repentance, doing some self-examination regarding our response to the love of God expressed through Christ Jesus, and renewing our commitment to turn to Him to love, serve and follow Him and his teaching. Can I encourage you to intentionally reach out to 1 or 2 others to connect regularly during this season to reflect on these things together and to pray for one another and for the church.
