Feed the Need

“When I was living on the streets in an addictive lifestyle a van stopped nearby and gave me socks and a warm drink with no strings attached. I felt cared for and loved even in my desperation.”

Those words are from Tina, one of the people who has worked hard at recovery and is now in full time employment supporting others. She was in rehab seven times and says it was the love of Jesus - and being part of a loving community - that finally set her free.

Together with her friend Diana, Tina spearheaded the Jericho Road Mobile Outreach, a simple service providing basic necessities to those on the fringes of society in Port Alberni, in the hope that some will find a glimmer of hope to summon enough courage to choose change and health.

We now work alongside the Salvation Army, preparing sandwiches every Saturday morning, and then taking them out to people along with other basic necessities to those on the fringes of society in Port Alberni to help "Feed the Need". God’s love is real and relevant and looks like something: people in a van turning up with socks, a cup of coffee, a hot meal, a ride to a meeting… with nothing asked for, or expected in return. God’s love is generous, kind, and always takes the first step to initiate friendship.

I AM SECOND

I Am Second is a ministry supporting those seeking to be free of addictions. The group meets from 5:00 – 6:30 PM every Thursday at Jericho Road for dinner and an opportunity to share our journey from brokenness (of many kinds) and to offer friendship and hope for those who have lost so much. We seek to provide a place of love and acceptance so that people can begin to experience some expression of community and care. Since the Covid-19 restrictions, we have had to suspend the meal.

Many people have come and gone over the past ten years, some have turned their lives around, some have not, and some still come anyway. This is one of the hardest and most challenging areas of ministry but we are committed to continuing even if only one or two find hope and a better future. We’ve seen more than one life transformed over the years.

Faith India Ministries

In November/December 2013 John Cox and Jim Roik visited an orphanage run by Faith India Ministries based in the village of Kotipalii, Andrea Pradesh Province, South India.

Since that time several other Jericho Road family members have visited, and we have been supporting this orphanage and school each month by providing resources for food and materials.

In 2020, in the midst of the Coronavirus global pandemic, we took on a huge faith risk. Their orphanage was in such a state of disrepair that it wouldn't survive another rainy season. So we committed to fund the rebuilding of the first floor of the new building and raised a little over $60,000!
